Saving Species with Science ®
Through CREW's education efforts an overnight adventure called Scientists for the Future has been successfully launched. Over seventy high school students from the Cincinnati Public schools have participated in the pilot program. Under served high school students from Cincinnati Public schools often do not have the opportunity to experience hands-on science education in a real life setting. CREW’s Scientists for the Future Overnight Adventure allows them to do just that with grant funding while offering fee-based programs to private and other high schools in the area.
In the lab, students use model plant species to practice in vitro techniques used to collect and propagate US endangered plants using plant tissue culture. Students learn the use of laparoscopic instruments in assisted reproduction such as in vitro fertilization, artificial insemination and embryo transfer. Students use in-house surveillance systems to monitor behavioral interactions between parent and offspring of endangered species in CREW’s assisted reproduction program.

Evaluations from the students and teachers have been very positive and the program is highly recommended.
